COVID-19: Oyo Lawmakers Donates 30 Percent Monthly Income to Civil Servants Salaries
The Oyo State House of Assembly has agreed to a 30 percent deduction in their monthly allocation to Civil servants effective from April, as COVID-19 pandemic hits harder on the Global economy, leading to drastic drop in Oil price, National revenues and Subsequently about 60 percent drop in Federal allocation to States.

According to reports reaching Teelamford, The 30 percent deduction includes both the Lawmakers salaries and other monthly allowances entitled to them as State Honorables.

This sacrifice will be made by Political office holders in the State to ensure that the regular payment of Civil Servants salaries is not affected irrespective of the economic situation.

The agreement was reached when the Governor of the state, Engr Seyi Makinde met with the State's Lawmakers at the Government house, last weekend.

At the meeting, it was learnt that the Governor explained that the Pandemic had resulted in about 60 percent dropped in federal allocation and it is taking tool on the State's economy.

Also, the Chairman of the Oyo State Committee on Information and Media, Honorable Kazeem Olayanju said the Lawmakers agreed to the slash in the interest of the smooth running of the state.
In his words, he said;
"Our income has been slashed by 30 percent as our support towards COVID-19. The governor brought the idea and we agreed that effective this month, there should be the 30 percent deduction.
We were made to understand that the Pandemic had greatly affected the economy of the state and our country Nigeria, as well as the Federal Government has reduced allocation by 60 percent.
This situation could have affected regular payment of the Civil servants salaries in Oyo State but the governor maintained that irrespective of the economy situation of Oyo State, the salary of the civil servants must not be affected.Hence, we agreed that Political office holders should make sacrifice."
