Nigeria Federal Government Fires Managing Director of Transmission Company

The federal government has fired Usman Gur Mohammed as the managing director of the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN).

President Muhammadu Buhari approved of the sack after the minister of power, Engineer Sale Mamman recommended the reorganization of TCN.

The minister in a statement sent to journalists on Tuesday, May 19 and signed by his spokesman, Aaron Artimas, said the sack of Mohammed takes place with immediate effect.

According to the statement, one Sule Abdulaziz has been appointed to replace the former TCN boss in an acting capacity.

The minister also confirmed the appointment of four directors who have been on acting position in the company for some time.

He reiterated that all the changes and appointment were approved by the president.

Part of the statement read: “As part of continuing measures to reposition and improve the performance of the power sector in the country, the honourable minister of power, Engr. Sale Mamman hereby announces major changes at the Transmission Company of Nigeria.

“Accordingly, the Managing Director of the TCN, Usman Gur Mohammed has been removed from office with immediate effect. He is being replaced with Engr. Sule Ahmed Abdulaziz, as managing director, in acting capacity.

“The honourable minister has also confirmed the appointment of four directors who have been on acting position in the company for some time.”

When he resumed 8 months ago, Engineer Mamman had given hints of sweeping changes in the Nigerian power sector.
