69 Persons Were Killed in #EndSARS Protests – Buhari Revealed

President Buhari has reportedly revealed that 69 persons were killed in the #EndSARS protest across the country.

BBC reported that the Nigerian President disclosed this during a virtual meeting with former leaders and security chiefs on Friday October 23. He said that 51 civilians, 11 police officers, and seven soldiers were killed in the unrest.

Buhari was quoted saying in a statement released by Femi Adesina that the killing came off an “initial genuine and well-intended protest of youths which was hijacked and misdirected”.

It was further gathered that the Nigerian President who stated that his administration will not allow miscreants and criminals to continue to perpetrate acts of hooliganism in the country, accused the protesters of refusing to call off the protest in spite of meeting their demands.

The statement read;

”Unfortunately, the protesters refused to call off the protest and engage the government to address their grievances. Instead, they became emboldened and gradually turned violent.

”We shall also continue to ensure that liberty and freedom, as well as the fundamental rights of all citizens are protected. Here, I want to also reaffirm our commitment to preserving the unity of this country.

“The President thanked the former Heads of State for attending the meeting and their invaluable comments, observations and advice, adding that ‘Nigerians expect nothing less from responsible statesmen’.

“Each of the former leaders commended President Buhari for steps taken so far to restore calm and order to the country and also applauded the presidential broadcast of Thursday as detailed and soothing to the country.

“The former heads of state were unanimous in their view that generation of employment and growing the economy including through direct foreign investments were critical to checking youth restiveness.

“The former heads of state also condemned the divisive and inciting pronouncements of separatists and were of the opinion that such acts should be stopped.

“Equally, the former leaders commended the actions taken by governors to address the demands of the ENDSARS protesters and their efforts to check the excesses of those who perpetrated violent acts and conduct.

“Finally, they called on youths to pursue peaceful means, in seeking redress through engagement with government and encouraged further conversation with the youths and other stakeholders in the country.”

#EndSARS: We Collected N147.8m, Spent N60.4m – Feminist Coalition Reveals

The Feminist Coalition that has been coordinating cash inflows for #EndSARS protests has said that a total of N147.8 million was received globally within 14 days of the campaign against Police brutality in Nigeria.

This was disclosed in a statement issued and signed by 14 of its members including F.K. Abudu and Damilola Odufuwa among others on Thursday, October 22.

The feminist group said, out of the funds received for the demonstration globally, a total of N60.4 million has been disbursed as of Thursday, October 22 while the remaining N87.4 million “will go towards funding medical emergencies, legal aids for wrongfully detained citizens and relief for victims of police brutality and families of the deceased.”

The statement reads in part: “We stand in solidarity with every Nigerian who has raised their voice to demand for urgent police reform, the end of police brutality, bad governance in Nigeria, and the disbandment of the notorious SARS unit.

“Here is a summary of the total funds we received and disbursed (in Naira) as of October 22nd, 2020: total received equals N147,855,788.28 (includes donations in dollars, Euros, Bitcoin and other currencies), total disbursed equals N60,403,235.00 and the total funds left equals N87,452,553.28.”

It said out of the remaining funds, the sum of N20,114,087.25 will be channelled for #EndSARSresponse (Medical), N15,741,459.59 for legal aid network; 40,228,174.51 naira will be as relief funds for victims of police brutality and families of the deceased, N5,247,153.197 for memorial for the fallen heroes while the remaining N6,121,678.73 will be for #EndSARSMentalHealthSupport.

In view of the violence that later enveloped the protests, leading to the killing of many people and destruction of both public and private properties, the group said it had decided to stop all the cash inflows for the protest, just as it called on Nigerian youths to observe the mandated curfews in their respected states for the sake of peace.

“The past two weeks have been tough for many Nigerians, most especially the last two days. Many lives have been lost and properties destroyed at the height of what started as peaceful marches for the end to police brutality. We wish to emphasize that we will no longer be accepting donations for #EndSARS going forward,” the statement added.

Read her post below;

Now all the rich folks and celebrities are tweeting from the comfort of their homes while the people die. All the internet curses, why don’t you have your parents call their friends who have friends in places?

Fuck anyone who’s encouraging people to go protest and die, yall ain’t shit. People are already going through it. Y’all start shit, set them up for failure, yall were chilling in your home on the days shit went left cus you were informed shit was going down. It’s crazy, once the military is deployed, there no negotiations. They do that in America, in France etc. Stop following these rich folks and crack head celebrities who will run and hide when shit goes bad, stop.

The audacity of my friends talking shit on the internet acting as they care from the comfort of their homes. Fuck you too. All evil piece of shit people. If you can’t be on the forefront fighting, don’t encourage others to, no one should die for anyone or anything but themselves” – She wrote.

Babajide Sanwo-Olu, Lagos State Governor, has condemned outrightly the attack on #EndSARS protesters at the Lekki tollgate area on Tuesday night.

He revealed this when he paid victims of Lekki shooting a visit at some Lagos hospitals on this morning.
