Fulani Herdsmen as Again Killed 10 People In Cross River State

At least 10 people have allegedly been killed by Fulani herdsmen at Obio Usiere in Eniong Abatim, Odukapni local government area of Cross River State.

The Village Head of Obio Usiere, Apostle Iya Effiong Orok, stated on Saturday that although it was earlier reported that two members of the community were killed last week in an attack by the herdsmen, they had discovered that eight more persons were killed.

According to him, the two people earlier reported were just people whose bodies were recovered immediately as at the time of the first attack.

His words, “We have lost nothing less than 10 people in this attack by Fulani herdsmen. They normally come during the dry season to feed their cattle in our area, the same incident occurred two years ago when two people were shot dead, now its 10 people”

“As I speak with you, Obio Usiere has been deserted. Our women are afraid to go their farms because they rape them in the bush and no one can help them. These people are heavily armed and we are just helpless.

“We have reported to both Police, DSS and other security agencies and we are using this opportunity to call on Governor Ben Ayade to help us because about 3, 500 people are now homeless, we have become refugees in our own land”

“It’s about a week this incident took place. It is true that some police men were sent here but the shortfall in logistics is a big challenge. We are afraid to go back to our ancestral home because we know what is happening in Enugu, Delta, Benue and we don’t like shedding blood on our land, it is a taboo for an Efik man to take up arms.”

Police PRO, ASP Irene Ugbo, confirmed the attack, but said only one person was killed.

She said policemen have been drafted to the area and normalcy has been restored.

“Our men are on ground 24 hours and we are not aware of any other killing. The rise in the death toll has not been reported to us as I speak with you, and we are not leaving the place,” she said.

The police on Saturday charged 13 students of the University of Lagos before a Special Offences Mobile Court in Oshodi, Lagos, over unlawful invasion of a broadcast media outfit, TVC.

They are standing trial before Chief Magistrate P.E. Nwaka, on two counts bordering on unlawful invasion and disruption of activities.

The names of the accused are:

Femi Adeyeye, Toni Aina, Kodri Yaya, Asimi Oladime, Ismahim Olalekan, Segun Okesola, Abdulazeez Soneye, Idris Abogunloko, and Muyiwa Olaniyi.

Others are Toheed Oladimeji, Joseph Akanni, Lukumon Olusegun, and Abiodun Agbeniyi.

They were arraigned at about 10.20am on Saturday, and they all pleaded not guilty to the charge.

Meanwhile, the magistrate ordered their remand at the Kirikiri prison, pending their bail application.

The court adjourned the case till April 6, for a determination of their bail.

The police prosecuting counsel, CSP Effiong Asuquo, Officer-in-Charge, Legal of the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department, Panti, had told the court that the accused committed the offence on March 31, 2017.

He said the accused had engaged in a riotous invasion of TVC station in Lagos, protesting an alleged rustication of one of their colleagues.

According to him, the students also invaded the main campus of the University of Lagos, Akoka, and disrupted normal activities in the institution.

The prosecutor said the institution’s semester examination is scheduled to begin on April 3 (Monday) adding that the invasion by the students was simply a ploy to stall the commencement of exams.

He said the offence contravened the provisions of section 168 (1) (d), and section 2 of the Criminal Law, Laws of Lagos State, 2015.

On the Davido and Hushpuppi debacle where both parties argued about who spends the most money in clubs, Galaxy said, “Spending in clubs depends on my mood. I spend a lot of money without noise. I’m more of a businessman and I have a lot of ventures that I’m involved in but it’s private. It’s not everything you put out on social media.”

Apart from comedy and music, the singer also revealed his other interests. “I have interests in acting but I’m taking my time and I’m focusing on my music for now. But by the grace of God, I will be able to do something in movies soon. I’m seriously working on my album right now and it would be released in a few months. Yoruba Actress, Nkechi Blessing Says Her Big Ikebe Is Natural and She Can't Hide It (See Photos)

Igbo actress Nkechi Blessing is presently the reigning queen in the Yoruba movie industry, with her recent movie, ‘Omoge Lekki’, where she gave top actor, Yinka Quadri, a lap dance.

In this interview with The Nation's Dupe Ayinla-Olasunkanmi, she discloses why she settled for the Yoruba movie industry and other interesting issues.

As an Igbo babe, don’t you think you will do better in the English sector?
I settle for this particular industry, because they were the one that accepted and welcomed me into the movie world, as an Igbo girl. I am not being biased here, but before you can make it in the English sector, it will be a very hard task.

Are you saying the Yoruba sector accepts just any person?
No, what I am saying is that in the English sector, you will move from one location to another, and might not even get selected for any role. But in the Yoruba sector; they are ready to help you grow and push you out for people to see you talent. It goes beyond the physical look, but what you can deliver.

Did you try to push yourself in the English sector?
Yes, my first movie was an English movie, directed by Emem Isong in 2007. The movie had load of stars. But at that point, I was still struggling to become a star, and it was hard for me.

Are you saying you have reached the top of your career now?
No, but you cannot compare then to now that things are easy for me, and I am taking everything cool. When I did the English movie, I didn’t get the recognition that I wanted then, so I switched.

But the movie was directed by Emem Isong, she could have been an avenue for you to rise?
Yes, that is true. But something happened back then; I lost the contact of the Production Manager who called me for the job, Emeka Duru. But I am trying to come back in track; which (saw) me star in some English movies recently. It is not like I am restricted to Yoruba movies; I do both, but more of Yoruba movies.

Which movie brought you to the limelight?
That is Omoge Lekki; it is one of the baddest movies reigning presently. It is written by my greatest mentor Mercy Aigbe-Gentry. She single-handedly brought the idea of that story that has made me a name to reckon with today.

The wayward lady you played in Omoge Lekki, is it somehow related to your person?
That is what I am trying to tell people, and that is the reason behind my new movie titled Churchgirl. When the trailer of Omoge Lekki was released and everyone saw the movie, it was believed that I must be a wayward girl, to have been able to play that role well.

But the story of the movie was to pass a message to every young person to always remember their background and always look back when they have finally made it in life. That is because you need to take care of the home, before impressing the street.

The ladies we have now spend money on material things to impress the society, copying the life style of the likes of kardarshians. Having their parents wasted away at home. The movie not about promoting girls who do runs, but a reminder for them to always look back and remember where they came from.

Does that mean that is the roles you have been getting?
Somehow, because when they saw the twerk part with Yinka Quadri that we used as promo, people have been seeing me in that aspect, and believe that is the part I can act well.

Are you saying your butt is a selling point for you?
People have been saying I have a big bumbum, but I don’t care. It is God given and I cannot hide it. People believe it is one of the things I am promoting, but I have been in the industry professionally since 2007; that is about 10years now.

22 Women, Girls Been Kidnapped By Boko Haram In North-East

Boko Haram members have abducted another 22 women and girls in two separate raids in north-east Nigeria, residents and vigilantes said.

In the first attack on Thursday, the jihadists raided the village of Pulka near the border with Cameroon where they kidnapped 18 girls.

“Boko Haram fighters from Mamman Nur camp arrived in pickup vans around 6am and seized 14 young girls aged 17 and below while residents fled into the bush,” a Pulka community leader said.

“They picked four other girls who were fleeing the raid they came across in the bush outside the village,” said the community leader who asked not to be named for fear of reprsals.

According to the official, the attackers were loyal to the faction headed by Abu Musab Al-Barnawi, the son of Boko Haram founder Mohammed Yusuf. Barnawi was appointed last year by Isis to replace leader Abubakar Shekau, who had pledged allegiance to the jihadist group in 2015.

Another resident confirmed the raid and said the girls were likely to end up as brides for the fighters. “They didn’t harm anyone during the raid and they made no attempt to shoot people running away from the village,” said the resident.

In the second incident outside the village of Dumba, close to Lake Chad, the jihadists killed a herdsman who had tried to escape after refusing to pay protection money, said Adamu Ahmed, a member of an anti-Boko Haram militia.

“When the Boko Haram gunmen came for the money they realised he had left with everything and they decided to go after him on their motorcycles,” Ahmed said. “They caught up with him near Dumba where they slaughtered him and shot dead 50 of his cattle.

“They took four women from the man’s family and the rest of the herd,” he said.

The promotion of Barnawi revealed divisions in the group, as Shekau had been criticised for mass killings and suicide attacks against civilians.
