Jigawa State Governor, Namadi Assures Corps Members of Safety Welfare

Jigawa State Governor, Umar Namadi, has assured members of the National Youth Service Corps deployed to the state of their safety and welfare throughout their service year.
The governor, represented by his deputy, Aminu Gumel, gave the assurance on Friday after the swearing-in of the 2025 Batch ‘B’ Stream II corps members at the NYSC Orientation Camp in Fanisau, Dutse.
“The government is committed to providing you (Corpers) with all necessary support to ensure your stay in Jigawa is safe and comfortable,” he said.
He urged the corps members to see their service year as an opportunity to contribute to national development, stressing that their efforts would benefit local communities while also building their character and experience.
He highlighted Jigawa State’s readiness to support the NYSC scheme in all aspects, saying, “Our administration values the contributions of corps members and will continue to ensure their welfare is prioritised.”
Gumel thanked all those involved in organising a smooth ceremony and reiterated the government’s resolve to maintain a secure environment for all corps members throughout their service period.
He, then called on the corps to embrace the spirit of service with integrity and dedication, promising that Jigawa would remain a safe place for their national duty.
Earlier speaking at the event, Jigawa State NYSC Coordinator, Jidda Dawud, detailed the scheme’s framework, revealing that 2,000 corps members were deployed to the state for the year 2025 Batch ‘B’ stream II mandatory service.
He said, “These young graduates from various institutions will undergo a three-week orientation camp before being posted across the state for their one-year mandatory service.”
Dawud warned the corps members to adhere strictly to the scheme’s rules and regulations, stating that “Discipline, hard work, and commitment to your duties during and after camp will define your service year.”
He also outlined the kinds of activities expected from the corps, including community development, health sensitization, and educational programs.

Attention!: Don’t Build Under Power Lines, Eko DisCo Warns Lagos State Communities

The Eko Electricity Distribution Company has called on residents of Ibeju-Lekki and nearby communities to exercise caution around electrical installations as the rainy season approaches.
The company emphasised critical safety measures to prevent electrical accidents and ensure a reliable power supply.
In a statement on Friday after its customer engagement forum held in the Ibeju district, where the Acting Chief Executive Officer, Eko Distribution Company, Mrs. Rekhiat Momoh, was represented by the Chief Finance Officer, Eko Electricity Distribution Company, Mr. Joseph Esenwa.
The advisory is coming at a time when Ibeju-Lekki is experiencing challenges related to illegal connections, vandalism, and unsafe construction practices near power infrastructure, which threaten both public safety and service continuity.
“We will encourage everybody – please don’t build under wires for safety reasons. There are standard regulations regarding safety and building under high tension lines, and we must all comply with the prescribed distances before construction,” Esenwa said.
The well-attended event brought together business owners, Community Development Association leaders, and local community representatives to discuss power-related challenges and collaborative safety measures.
Esenwa strongly cautioned against building or erecting structures under or extremely close to power installations to avoid the risk of electrocution.
He highlighted additional safety concerns, including illegal electrical connections that compromise system integrity, vandalism of Eko DisCo installations affecting service delivery, and building directly above underground electrical cables, which pose serious safety hazards.
The CFO assured residents that Eko DisCo is implementing extra measures to ensure safety during the rainy season through increased maintenance schedules for cables and poles, enhanced vigilance on installation integrity, and prompt response systems for customer-reported faults.
Customers were encouraged to report any electrical faults they observed to the district’s customer service for immediate maintenance attention.
In a demonstration of Eko DisCo’s commitment to customer satisfaction, most complaints regarding faulty meters and transformers presented at the forum were instantly granted replacement orders by the CFO, to the elation of customers and their community representatives.
Notably, six transformers were immediately ordered for energisation after repair, providing relief to
communities that have been experiencing power challenges.
The Chairman of the Lekki Estate Resident and Stakeholders Association, Infrastructure
Maintenance Committee, Wale Aderoju, praised the ongoing engagement, noting over 85 per cent satisfaction at
the meeting.
“We continue to cooperate with Eko DisCo to achieve desired service levels while ensuring our communities act as watchmen against vandalism,” he stated.
The forum also addressed the persistent challenge of energy theft, with Esenwa acknowledging it
as “a huge problem” requiring continuous monitoring and enforcement of Commission-approved
sanctions.
Joseph Idinye, representing Destiny Homes, emphasised community cooperation in combating energy theft, saying, “When somebody is stealing electricity and others look the other way, we all suffer for it. Any tendency to steal electricity is to our own detriment.”
The Head Project, Technical Services, Ovie Adjekpiyede, provided updates on ongoing infrastructure projects, including a new Federal Government-awarded substation project for the Ibeju-Lekki area, Elemoro substation expansion to receive an additional 8MW capacity by the end of 2025, and enhanced power stability initiatives covering communities from Awoyaya to Lakue.
“We are working assiduously to ensure a reliable power supply is sustained in the Ibeju-Lekki area
through strategic partnerships with Federal, State, and Local Governments,” Adjekpiyede stated.
The forum highlighted Eko DisCo’s multi-tier complaint resolution system, enabling customers to escalate issues from the district level to higher authorities when necessary.
Customers were also informed about bandwidth verification processes and payment plan options to ensure continuous service.
As the ember months approach with increased power consumption for ceremonies and celebrations, Eko DisCo reiterated its commitment to safety and reliable service delivery while calling for continued community partnership in maintaining electrical infrastructure.
Photos: President Tinubu Arrives at the Coronation of the 44th Olubadan, Oba Rashidi Adewolu Ladoja

President Bola Tinubu has arrived at the historic Mapo Hall in Ibadan, the capital of Oyo State, to attend the coronation of Oba Rashidi Ladoja as the 44th Olubadan of Ibadanland.
The President’s arrival, which was met with a rousing reception from a massive crowd of dignitaries and citizens, marks the climax of the week-long series of events celebrating the ascension of the new monarch.

His presence and other dignitaries underscore the national importance of the occasion, as Ibadan celebrates the continuity of its revered monarchical institution.

Ladoja, a former Oyo state governor and senator, was selected as the 44th Olubadan, following the passing of Oba Owolabi Olakulehin on July 7.
Excitement is already sweeping across Ibadan as the city witnesses Ladoja’s ascension to the revered throne.
Ladoja, 81, is a respected businessman and political figure who rose through the traditional Olubadan chieftaincy ranks to become Olubadan.
The Olubadan of Ibadanland is the paramount traditional ruler of Ibadan, the capital of Oyo State, and one of the largest cities in West Africa. The Olubadan throne holds deep cultural, historical, and political significance among the Yoruba people.
Earlier today, it was reported that major roads were closed and security personnel from various agencies, including the police and DSS, were strategically deployed to ensure a peaceful and orderly ceremony.
The Mapo Hall, an iconic landmark in the city, was meticulously decorated, and billboards bearing the image of the Olubadan-designate were seen across the metropolis. The atmosphere is thick with cultural pride, with traditional drummers and dancers adding to the festive mood.
Oba Ladoja, a former Governor of Oyo State, has been the center of attention since the passing of his predecessor, Oba Owolabi Olakulehin, on July 7, 2025.
The journey to the throne has been a long and distinguished one for the 81-year-old monarch, who has risen through the traditional chieftaincy ranks over a span of 32 years.
His coronation is particularly significant as he is the first former governor of the state to ascend the Olubadan throne, bringing a unique blend of political experience and traditional leadership to the revered stool.
Other prominent guests who have arrived for the occasion include the Governor of Oyo State, Seyi Makinde, who cut short his annual leave to present the staff of office to the new Olubadan.
Several other traditional rulers, political leaders, and business moguls from across Nigeria are also in attendance, highlighting the broad-based respect for Oba Ladoja and the Olubadan institution.
The ceremony is a display of the rich cultural heritage of the Yoruba people and a testament to the enduring importance of traditional institutions in modern Nigeria.
As the ceremony progresses, all eyes are on Oba Rashidi Ladoja, who has already completed key traditional rites, including the symbolic decoration with Akoko leaves. His coronation is not just a ceremonial event but a significant milestone that solidifies the continuity of the Olubadan lineage and marks a new era for Ibadanland. With President Tinubu in attendance, the event serves as a powerful symbol of national unity and a celebration of Nigeria’s diverse cultural heritage.

Turkish football expert, Zengi reveals No European club can match Galatasaray’s salary offer for Victor Osimhen

“This year, the Africa Cup of Nations will take place for about a month, and Osimhen is expected to participate,” Zengi said.
“That means he could miss 4–5 matches, and some clubs are reluctant to sign players who will be absent for that duration.”
Despite this, Zengi expressed confidence that Osimhen would remain at Galatasaray, stating that a decision should be finalised within a few days.
“No matter how much European clubs offer, they simply cannot match Galatasaray’s salary package,” he added.
“He has already ruled out a move to Saudi Arabia, and his family is not in favor of it either.”
Osimhen’s future continues to be a major topic during the summer transfer window, with clubs like Liverpool reportedly considering ambitious moves to acquire the prolific forward.

Senator Natasha Akpoti's family home attacked by Armed men, one suspect arrested
Armed men have attacked the family home of the suspended senator representing Kogi Central, Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, in Ihima, Okehi Local Government Area of Kogi State.

The incident occurred on Tuesday night, June 17, 2025 barely two months after a similar attack on the same home.
It was gathered that the armed men had vandalized windows before police officers, community vigilantes and youths repelled the attack.
Spokesperson of the Kogi State Police Command, SP William Aya, who confirmed the incident to Punch on Wednesday, June 18, said one suspect identified as Jose Suberu, was apprehended at the scene of the attack.
“Yes it’s true and one suspect, Joe Suberu was arrested at the scene. Efforts are on to arrest the fleeing others,” Aya said.
In a statement issued by the Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan Media Office, it was revealed that the armed men vandalised several windows.
"However, with the swift intervention of officers from the local police station, community vigilantes, and concerned youths, the attackers were repelled and one suspect was apprehended,” the statement read.
The media office further alleged that Suberu, a native of the community and described as a ritualist, confessed that this was his third time participating in attacks on the senator’s family residence.
A mob reportedly attempted to lynch the suspect before he was rescued and handed over to the police.
"A cutlass and charms were recovered from him. Other suspects involved in the attack, reportedly armed with dangerous weapons, remained at large at press time,” the statement added.

Donald Trump claims Iran was ‘weeks away’ from nuclear weapon, signals potential U.S. military action
The United State President, Donald Trump has stated that he believes Iran was just “a few weeks away” from obtaining a nuclear weapon, warning of catastrophic consequences if the Islamic Republic were to succeed.

Trump stated;
“I’ve been saying for 20 years, maybe longer, that Iran cannot have a nuclear weapon. I’ve been saying it for a long time, and I think they were a few weeks away from having one,”
“Iran can’t have a nuclear weapon—too much devastation. And they’d use it,” he added. “Others won’t use it, but I believe they would. So that’s it. It’s very simple.”
Trump’s alarming assertion comes amid growing tensions between Iran and Israel, with fears escalating over the potential for a broader regional war. However, his comments appear to contradict the U.S. intelligence community’s official assessment.
In March, Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard testified that U.S. intelligence agencies “continue to assess Iran is not building a nuclear weapon and that Supreme Leader Khamenei has not authorized a nuclear weapons program since suspending it in 2003.”
Additionally, CNN reported earlier this week that, according to four individuals familiar with the matter, current intelligence estimates suggest Iran is still up to three years away from being capable of producing and delivering a nuclear weapon.
“That first night was devastating,” he said. “It really knocked the one side off—devastating. A devastating evening, day, and it pretty much proceeded that way.”
Asked about the future of the Iranian regime and the possibility of its collapse, Trump remained vague. “I have a plan for everything, but we’ll see what happens. Got a ways to go,” he said, repeating his view that Iran “should have” made a nuclear deal when they had the chance.
He also claimed that Iranian officials “want to meet” and have expressed interest in coming to the White House—though Tehran has firmly denied any such intentions.
“I haven’t closed the door on meeting with them,” Trump added.“That first night was devastating,” he said. “It really knocked the one side off—devastating. A devastating evening, day, and it pretty much proceeded that way.”

CreditCorp disburses loans to 100,000 Nigerians in six months
Barely six months after receiving its seed funding, the Credit Corporation of Nigeria says it has disbursed consumer-credit facilities to over 100,000 Nigerians, 35,000 of whom are civil servants.

The company’s Chief Executive Officer, Uzoma Nwagba, revealed this on Tuesday while briefing State House correspondents at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
Nwagba said;
“CreditCorp has signed partnership agreements with 23 licensed financial institutions, with hundreds more in the pipeline to scale the National Consumer Credit Scheme.
We got our funding a little over six months ago. As of today, we have signed on 23 financial institutions and delivered credit access to more than 100,000 people,” he stated, adding “Of that total, roughly 35,000 are federal and state civil servants.”
Nwagba hinted that early data show strong uptake for household goods, school fees and micro-enterprise equipment.
The milestone marks the first public update since President Bola Tinubu authorised CreditCorp to drive affordable consumer lending under the Renewed Hope agenda. Analysts say the latest figures—if verified—would make CreditCorp one of the fastest-scaling credit platforms in West Africa.
Nigerian software developer, Mofe Ejegi marks 10 years of tech impact
A Nigerian software engineer Mofe Ejegi has marked a significant milestone in his career, celebrating a decade of contributing to Africa’s growing technology ecosystem.

Known for his work in mobile engineering and fintech, Ejegi reflected on ten years of professional experience in software development, from self-taught beginnings to building platforms used across multiple countries.
Originally trained as a civil engineer, Ejegi began teaching himself to code while still at university, eventually transitioning into mobile software development.
“I knew I didn’t want to end up in construction,” he said in a statement to The PUNCH on Monday. “So, I started teaching myself how to code, using whatever resources I could find online.”
That decision proved pivotal. Over the years, Ejegi has held engineering roles at fintech companies including Branch International and Yassir, where he helped develop mobile applications powering digital banking and payment services across Africa.
He currently serves as a senior Android engineer at Banque Misr, one of the oldest and largest banks in the Middle East and North Africa region.
His work focuses on designing secure and scalable mobile banking systems, with a strong emphasis on user experience and backend performance.
According to him, explained
“If an app is fast but not intuitive, people won’t trust it. And if it’s beautiful but fails under load, it’s just a pretty face,”.
Beyond his professional responsibilities, Ejegi is an active member of the developer community. He contributes to open-source projects, mentors young engineers, and participates in conversations on emerging technologies, particularly Kotlin and cross-platform development.
His technical writing has been featured on platforms like The New Stack and Andela’s blog, where he breaks down complex engineering topics for wider audiences.
Reflecting on a decade in the field, Ejegi said the journey has been defined by continuous learning and adapting to change.
“Technology changes so fast; you have to keep evolving. “Right now, I’m really interested in how we can build tools that work seamlessly across platforms without duplicating effort,” he said.
While the milestone offered a moment to reflect, Ejegi said his focus remains forward-looking.
“There’s still so much to build,”.
Ejegi’s story adds to the growing list of Nigerian tech talents shaping financial innovation and digital infrastructure on the continent and beyond.
